Unveiling Insights from #ATAGTR2022 to help you create your “Thought Abstracts” for Global Testing Retreat 2023

We would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone who is interested in speaking at the Global Testing Retreat 2023. As “Embracing Technical Agility and Tech Future” is the theme for this year’s conference, we are well positioned to investigate emerging technical trends and difficulties in the field of software testing.

As Call for Papers for this year’s edition is “ON”, we thought it would be prudent to have a look at last year’s Global Testing Retreat and get some insights from the same.

#ATAGTR2022 Event Recap: Trends and Topics
The ATAGTR2022 retreat went virtual and was innovatively tailored to the worldwide pandemic’s concerns. The theme, “Test Beyond the Obvious,” urged presenters to delve into the breadth and depth of technology and software testing, taking into account the effects of fast emerging technology and worldwide user experiences. Some key trends & topics were:

  • We witnessed interesting presentations on themes such as Metaverse, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality, indicating the transition of software testing into a Multi-dimensional approach.
  • AI and Machine Learning were extensively discussed, with themes ranging from AI app testing to the usage of AI in the testing process itself.
  • In keeping with worldwide trends, another significant focus was automation. Contributions looked at the growing role of testing tools, codeless tools, and the dynamics of Test Pyramid Automation etc were discussed in the conference.
  • As the software industry moves towards continuous development, DevOps talks have become increasingly important. Continuous testing, QA methodology TestOps, and the utilisation of Docker and Kubernetes were highlighted.
  • The global expansion of the Blockchain and Crypto industries was well represented, with real-world use cases and talks on the challenges and necessity for comprehensive testing in these domains.

Highlights from Specific Focus Areas >> “Testing”

  1. A wide range of topics were discussed. Among those highlighted were exploratory testing, model-based testing, immersive testing, accessibility testing, CSV, and hardware testing, all of which provide insights into the diverse world of testing.
  2. In today’s digital-first environment, performance testing, chaos engineering, usability testing, security testing, compliance, and data testing were all emphasised.
  3. The retreat included strategic discussions on themes such as Test Strategy, Test Architecture, Framework Architecture, Talent Upskilling, and Test Management.

Here’s the playlist of sessions during Global Testing Retreat 2022 >>

We had – 60+ Speakers, 4 parallel tracks, 2 Panel Discussions, 5 Keynotes, 38 Interactive Sessions

Corporate Involvement and Awards

It was truly motivating to see some business leaders and global leaders cultivate significant participation with their team members who were conference speakers. These industry leaders did not simply observe the event; they actively participated in significant contacts and discussions.

Excellent teamwork and leadership led to outstanding results. VOIS won the renowned “Testing Leadership Award 2022”, amassing an incredible 55800 leaderboard points. Cognizant Technologies Solutions and Pratham Software (PSI) were the first and second runners-up, confirming their substantial industry presence.

This active participation by company leaders was not only motivating for the teams involved, but it also set an example for other organisations to follow in future Global Testing Retreat editions.”

Reflecting on 2022 Call for Papers

When we looked back on last year’s ‘Call for Papers,’ we were both inspired and surprised by the sheer amount and range of entries. The ‘Interactive Talks’ category, in particular, witnessed a plethora of innovative contributions, demonstrating the vast global expertise drawn to our conference.

The ‘Hands-on Labs’ workshops drew a lot of attention as well. The final selection highlighted the finest of innovative and practical testing insights from around the world for both the longer and shorter sessions.

It is critical to emphasise the fairness of our selecting procedure. Every proposal, regardless of category – ‘Interactive Talks’ or ‘Hands-on Labs’ – was thoroughly examined, promoting a diverse range of subjects and approaches within our conference calendar.

We saw a high level of participation in a variety of testing areas. Among the entries, categories such as ‘Performance Testing/ Engineering,’ ‘Agile and DevOps in Testing,’ and ‘Test Strategy’ were popular. ‘Test Leadership and Management,’ ‘Chaos Engineering,’ and ‘Test Architecture and Frameworks,’ while receiving fewer entries, made their presence felt with the quality of selections, emphasising the relevance of specialised knowledge.

Here’s the number of entries that made it to each round of the Call for Papers process and reached the final selection for each category:

  1. Interactive Talks (30 mins): In Round 1 >> 110 entries were received, 58 of which moved on to Round 2. Out of those, 31 were finally selected.
  2. Hands on Labs – 90 mins: In Round 1 >> 6 entries were received, 5 of which moved on to Round 2. Out of those, 4 were finally selected.
  3. Hands on Labs – 60 mins: In Round 1 >> 6 entries were received, all of which moved on to Round 2. Out of those, 5 were finally selected.

Summary of the total entries received for Call for Papers:
We received Abstracts in around 25 Categories and many entries in others category. Out of which top 6 categories were as follows >>

  • Performance Testing/ Engineering
  • Agile and DevOps in Testing
  • Test Strategy
  • Test Leadership and Management
  • Chaos Engineering
  • Test Architecture and Frameworks
